Cavan currently hosts the Annual National Registered Irish Draught Sale held in October of each year. Held at Cavan, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, upcoming Fall 2008

 

The National Sales of Irish Draught horses have been held at a several venues over the years. Beginning in 1986 and continuing to the present day. The sales include primarily Foals, Yearlings, 2, 3 year olds, usually a few broodmares and rarely stallions. The seller sets a reserve price and if the bidding does not reach the seller’s asking price the animal is not sold at auction. There are those who say many deals are made after the bidding has ended.

3 year old stallion, Holycross, sold for 6400 Guineas

56 lots for sale

Foals, broodmares, geldings

 

 

 

On offer for 2007, 2- day sale: Foals 206; yearlings 29; 2 yr olds 26; older horses 4; and broodmares 62. A second sale at Cavan also too place in November 2007.NEW!

After last year's first time ever 2-day sale, it is impressive that in 2006 there will be

3-days of National Registered Irish Draught Sales at Caven Equestrian Centre for the Irish Draught Horse, 3rd and 4th October, and 27th November.

RDS Show Programme, (1967 was the restart of Irish Draught classes at the RDS which had not been held since 40 years) 1978, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, from the 1967 Show Program, Irish Draught Horses

Class 65 Irish Draught Mare in foal or having produced a foal in 1966 or 1967, entered in the Irish Draught Horse Book published by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. (This Class is confined to mares selected for competition and invited to compete by the Royal Dublin Society.)

            18 Mares were entered, including Moral Code (6246), Lady Grey (6300), Springfield Dawn (5951), Enniskeane Countess (5990), Twister (6168), Outer Limits (6263), Rosenamona (6438), Lislarkin Lassie (5937), Wild Rose (6305), Oriental (6264), My Girl (6211), Eurydice (6180), Rose Love (5929), Come On (6265), name missing, and Island Rambler (6274).

Class 65A Colt Foal

            2 Colt foals were entered

Class 65B Filly Foal

            2 Filly Foals were entered

Class 66 Exhibition class of selected Registered Irish Draught Stallions (No class adjudication)

            6 Stallions were exhibited, Merrion(477), Bantry Pearl (525), Golden Plover (537), Laughton (446), Armanda Star (566), and King of Diamonds (547).

 

Annual Stallion Parade (The Irish Draught Horse Society and the Half Bred Horse Breeders’ Society, 2002) held at Ulster Lakeland Equestrian Park, Necarne Castle, on 23rd February, 2002. also held around the provinces and nationally are stallion parades at local venues. These parades help mare owners select a stallion for the coming breeding season.
